Must Experience-Stadio Olimpico

Renowned soccer (thats football for everyone outside of North America) matches take place in this Roman sports battlefield, including the legendary, bi-annual battle between AS Roma vs Lazio. The electricity, the chanting and the singing from tens of thousands of rival fans is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Must Experience-Great American Ballpark

The Cincinnati Reds are one of the oldest professional baseball franchises in the United States. This beautifully crafted ballpark has a timeless, old school atmosphere and pays homage to the classic baseball fields of the past. Tickets in the bleachers, where fans are sometimes the most vocal, can be had for around $10 US.

Must Experience- Boston Celtics Game at Boston Garden

With its iconic parquet wood panel flooring and legendary championship banners hanging from the rafters, this is a true basketball temple, filled with memories of basketball giants of the past and present . This storied franchise has a raucous, passionate and extremely loud fan base and treat each and every game as though it was the championship finals.

Must Experience-Montreal Canadiens vs Original 6 Rival

The Montreal Canadiens (or as the locals call them 'Les Habitents') are the most successful franchise in NHL hockey history. When the Canadiens play an "Original 6" rival, such as Toronto or Boston, the Bell Centre turns into an epicentre of tension, where every goal scored means absolute glory or crushing disappointment for their fans.

Must Experience-Sunday Tailgate Party at Cowboys Stadium

For those unfamiliar with tailgate parties, they are pre-game gatherings of thousands of fans outside the American Football stadium. Full of friendly camaraderie, BBQ and occassionally alchohol as the die-hard fans get ready to see their Cowboys in good spirits. The Cowboys Stadium in Dallas has some of the best pre-game NFL tailgate parties, followed by an exciting game where over 80,000 fans cheer on "America's team".

Must Experience: Aussie Rules Football at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)

The MCG was built in 1853 and seats more than 100,000 spectators. This is the ultimate venue to witness an AFL game...the crowd is absolutely electrifying at rivalry games, and it’s an exciting sport to see live. The big Melbourne fan base at the MCG will be packed about evenly with fans from either team, and they are definitely passionate.

Must Experience: The Final Leg of the Tour de France

The Tour de France is the 'holy grail' of bicycling, and even though the route of the race changes each year, the final stage has always been hosted by the city of Paris. Climaxing along the Champs-Elysees, the finale has become a long standing French tradition, attracting a magnificent crowd each year. Travelers wishing to be a part of this special experience should plan ahead in order to get a good viewing spot – seats along the finish line can be very pricey, but well worth it.

You went to a cricket ground but didn't watch cricket - head back to Melbourne for Boxing Day to make amends! ;-)

Marchel: You are right, looks like Houston is the team to beat this year. But Dallas is still the centre of the universe as far as football is concerned.

Ian: It's a game I've tried to understand and appreciate. I have been told the cricket crowds at MCG can get pretty wild.

Thanks for your comments!

Oh, Adam... How could you leave out The Ohio State University's beloved Ohio Stadium, aka the Horseshoe? The best college football (American, thank you very much) traditions can be found inside this stadium that dates back to 1922, including TBDBITL (The Ohio State Marching Band). Did you know that beyond football, the stadium also provides student housing for those who demonstrate high academic ability and great financial need? Definitely more than football! It's worth a visit any time you head to Columbus. :)
